JOHNNY E. RAMSEY
CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CHURCH , PASTOR
The Reverend Johnny E. Ramsey was born and raised in Newbern, Tennessee where he lived until attending Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Rev. Ramsey entered the U.S. Navy in 1984 when he began active duty. Following basic training in San Diego, Rev. Ramsey completed training in the Arabic language at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California.
After follow-up training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas, Rev. Ramsey reported to the Naval Security Group Activity, Athens, Greece in April 1986, where Rev. Ramsey served providing direct support to Mediterranean naval operations. He served over 300 days at sea across five surface ships and two submarines. For his service he received a Naval Expeditionary Medal and Letters of Commendation from the Commander, Sixth Fleet.
Rev. Ramsey transferred to the Naval Security Group Activity, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, in April 1988 where he completed his military commitment July 1989 serving as a language analyst at the National Security Agency.
Rev. Ramsey received a Bachelor’s of Arts from Regents College, Albany, New York in September 1989; a Certificate in Financial Accounting from Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD in May 1992; and successfully completed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination in February 1993. He is licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
As a CPA, Rev. Ramsey has worked in a variety of positions including a venture capital firm, a local government and two public accounting firms. Rev. Ramsey furthered his education receiving a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore in December 1997. Rev. Ramsey serves as a bi-vocational minister. In addition to his role as pastor of Christian Community Church, he is a senior manager in the Federal Audit Practice of KPMG LLP, a Big Four international public accounting firm.
Rev. Ramsey graduated cum laude from the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC with a Master’s of Divinity, in May 2005. Rev. Ramsey was ordained to Christian ministry in the United Church of Christ in the same month. He served St. John’s United Church of Christ, Baltimore, Maryland in various positions including associate pastor for more than ten years. After serving as a supply pastor, Rev. Ramsey was elected as pastor by Christian Community Church United Church of Christ in January 2008.
Rev. Ramsey has been married to his wife, Shirley, who he met in Monterey, for twenty three years. They have two sons, Greg, 19, and Tim, 13. They reside in Catonsville, Maryland.
